New Year-Great Start

Wow! We are already at the half way mark!! It was nice to get a little break but I sure did miss the little ones!  I was so energetic the first day back and was hoping to be greeted by the same...but they came in so sleepy! Almost all of them had bags under their eyes and they were so quiet!  Everyone must have had a busy break ;)  I will have to say though, they were on top of it this whole week! The learning was so efficient.  We are like a well oiled machine now!  I love this part of the year when we all know the routine, we are all comfortable with each other and we can get so much done :)  I am seeing so many strides in our learning.  Here are my questions for discussion...
1. What growths are you seeing in your child?
2. Are you surprised by anything they are able to do?
3. Is there anything lacking that you think they need more practice in?

Wilson Reading: Tapping words

We learned how to tap out words today.  When your child comes to a word they do not know, they should hold their writing hand up, and tap a finger with their thumb for each letter sound in the word.  So for the word "cat" they would tap their first finger for /c/ their middle finger for /a/ and their ring finger for /t/ as they say each sound.  They they should slide their thumb across all the fingers they have tapped to say the word slowly.  Good luck!

School Dances

Hi parents!  I wanted to encourage you to participate in the Mother Son Hoedown or the Father Daughter Cinderella Ball.  I will be volunteering at both and they are such a good experience for family bonding.  I have never been to the hoedown but I have been to every cinderella ball for the past 10 years.  I used to be Cinderella!  It is so special for fathers and daughters.  I hope everyone thinks about coming!  I sent home information for both but would be happy to send it home again if you have misplaced it :)

Wilson Reading

I have sent home 2 packets of information to read so far about Wilson.  What does everyone think of it so far?  Is it do-able at home?  Is your child talking to you about what we do in class yet?  Wilson is a whole phonics program that will have your child reading and writing very soon :)  We spend 30 minutes everyday working with these materials.  We learn 2 new letters a week and we practice their sounds, the way you write them, and how to join them together to make words.  So far we have only done t,b, and f.

Welcome :)

Welcome to Kindergarten (kids and parents!)  What an exciting year this will be for you and your child!  This is the year that prepares children for life long learning.  Be sure to become involved as much as you can so your child will learn from your enthusiasm and want to do their best!  To help us all get acquainted, I would like you to answer some of the following questions and I will do the same.  Feel free to respond to other posts made by parents so we can start becoming a family :)
1.  What is your name (primary blogger/bloggers).
2.  Tell us a little about your family make-up and your family's background and what your family likes to do for fun.
3.  Is this your families first experience with Kindergarten?  If so, how are you feeling?  Any fears/concerns? If not, what was your favorite part of Kindergarten with your other child/ren?  Any advice for the newbies?
4.  What do you hope your child learns this year?
5.  What questions do you have about the way this year will go?

I am so excited to get to know all of your families.  This year is going to be a blast!
